Metis Law was founded in early 2009 by Paul Cooper and Rajat Sharma. The firm was born as a result of their beliefs that current legal services were becoming outdated and needed reform. Metis aims to be a reinvention delivering an innovative and entrepreneurial legal service through combining the best of private and in-house legal practices into one philosophy.
Engaged by the vision of Metis' fresh approach, and its exciting modern service model, the partners are supported by an impressive portfolio of expert lawyers who have joined Metis since 2009.
Our aim is to provide legal services that adhere to the highest standards of excellence and integrity – at fee levels that are sensible – and to do this in a way that is unique, exciting and personal.
Our name comes from Greek mythology – the Titan goddess Metis was advisor to Zeus, lord of the gods, and was seen by the ancients as the personification of good counsel, advice, planning, cunning, craftiness and wisdom.
In the classical greek language, the adjective 'metis' meant a fluid way of thinking beyond ordinary logic; a flexible way of problem solving; a special kind of many-faceted, adaptable, opportune and cunning intelligence, used by various gods and heroes throughout mythology to intervene on behalf of the weak and oppressed and reverse their situation. 'Metis' was a highly prized and much admired quality that was actively sought in advisors and leaders.
In alternative North American cultures, 'metis' can also mean 'mixed heritage' and celebrates diversity.
The promotion of all of these skills and values is a key driving force in the way we do business – it’s how and why we are different.
